In The US, Tipping is the charge of labor. Period.
Here in the United States, tipping is not a signal of an opulent drug kingpin. It is a necessary part of the bill. Leaving zero currency means that you are not thrifty but are stealing directly from your waitperson.

I agree that the labor should be paid by the employer. They have no problem raising the price when beef goes up or the economy slows down, but when restuarants encourage me to tip a greater percentage than I tithe, the restaurant industry as a whole needs to be reevaluated.

When we go out to eat and I don't just mean at a seat down and we have recieved the best of service I tip every that waits on me . They work very hard for their money. But, likewise if I am treated with disrespect and get terribe serve I'll ask for the manager and give no tip at all.

Why should anyone pay for what the employer should pay his employees. Which is minumum wage.

Because it is so customary that it is a norm, which means that wait staff are paid by the employer far less than minimum wage to account for tips. If you can immigrate. You can look at the sales tax, multiply it by 2, and add it. If you can't bare to part with the expected labor cost, then you actually can't afford the meal.

If it's a necessary part of the bill why isn't it automatically added to the bill unless there are a certain number of guests?
